About the Golden Gate Indoor

The third annual Golden Gate Indoor Solo Piping & Drumming Contest will be held Saturday, July 18, 2026, at the United Irish Cultural Center in San Francisco. The contest is presented by the Irish Pipers Band of San Francisco, with administrative support from the Northern Branch of WUSPBA. Competition events will be offered in all amateur grades of piping (both light music and piobaireachd anticipated), snare drumming, tenor drumming, and bass drumming. The competitions will conclude in the late afternoon with Grade 1 pipers playing their light music events back-to-back on stage. Prizes will be awarded to the overall winners of each grade.

The United Irish Cultural Center is located in the city’s outer Sunset district on 45th Avenue between Sloat and Wawona, three blocks from the ocean. Competition events will be held on the ground floor and the second floor. Spectators are welcome. The bar on the ground floor will be open for business in the afternoon. A café, a deli, and a pizzeria are located within one block of the Center. Parking is on the street only. There is usually available street parking on Sloat (including westbound along the median).

Proceeds from the contest will support the Irish Pipers Band’s growing juvenile program.

Questions about the contest may be directed to contest@wuspbanb.org.
